Spearmint may aid help women that are bothered by abnormal hair growth. Researchers from Turkey treated 21 women with tea made from spearmint leaves, twice a day for five days during the follicular phase of menstrual cycle.
Around 5% of women during their reproductive-age grow hair on areas like the face, chest or ears, an outcome of increased sensitivity to or production of, androgen hormones, including testosterone. The women tea drinkers had a reduced testosterone.
Oral contraceptives or spironolactone, a drug that have undesirable side effects is often used as a treatment of excess hair.
According to the authors, spearmint tea can be used as an alternative method for mild cases.
